To quote something I read in an article a few months back, “LICE stands for L for Lice, I for Information, C for Control and E for Education.” I could not have said it better myself. September is head lice prevention month. Since most kids are back to school and will be as of next week, there is no better time than now to be in control of head lice.

The first step in being in control is getting educated. Knowing what to look for and actually performing weekly head checks on your children is key. The best and most efficient way to do this is with a lice comb. A professional one is best and if “once a week you take a peak”, you will be ahead of the game and be one step closer to winning the war on lice.

Help erase the stigma connected with lice. Tell your kids it is not a big deal if they get it. Don’t let them see YOU over react. It has nothing to do with cleanliness. If the “ick-factor” were erased, people would be much more at ease with the topic and more kids and parents would talk about it and therefore open the lines of communication forcing parents to be more aware and check their children.

There are ways in which we can try to keep the lice under control while the kids are in school. Girls with long hair should wear their hair up. When the hair is down, it acts like an open road for the lice to travel on. Head lice are attracted to us because of our human smells. If the smells on our heads and hair are masked by another scent, it can have a repelling effect in keeping the lice away. Check out the line of products by Original Sprout that we carry https://www.originalsprout.com/health-studies which talk about their studies on lice. Potomac Lice Lady’s Stay Away Spray has Peppermint Oil to help your kids stay lice free too.

Whatever your needs are, we have your heads covered and will keep you in control when it comes to head lice. As always, have a “de-liceful” day!

Best,

Lauren
