Lice can be a hassle and cause a lot of stress to all that are involved. But there are some ways in which you can help to prevent those critters from coming into your household.

One way is when your children come home from school, place their coats, hats, gloves and backpacks in the dryer on a high heat setting for 30 minutes a day. Lice do not like the heat.

If your children have sleepovers, when they return home, put their pillow cases, blankets and stuffed animals in the dryer as well on a heat setting for 30 minutes.

Girls with long hair attending school should wear their hair up and wash brushes and ponytail holders once a week in a solution of alcohol and water.

If going to a birthday party, and it is possible, take your child’s jacket along with you, rather than leaving it in a large pile of coats on top of one another.

I have found that certain products made with tea tree oil sprayed on the hair work very well as a repellent to the hair as well.

All the best,
